Cascade FC Long Term Player Development Model


STAGE 1: DEVELOPMENTAL

U9/U10 Ages

The primary focus for the Developmental stage is to develop a strong technical foundation, develop team work, understanding of shape and a variety of positions. Additionally we want every child to foster a love for the game whilst learning key life skills such as respect, sportsmanship, hard work and integrity.

The key techniques developed during this stage using the CFC Curriculum will be:

  • Dribbling/Ball Mastery - creativity, individual possession, 1v1 attacking, change of pace and change of direction
  • Passing and receiving technique
  • First touch - with both feet, thigh, chest
  • 1v1 Defending and Attacking - progressing to 2v2 and small sided games.
  • Striking the ball and shooting
  • Group Possession
  • Develop coordination and speed and agility.

During the Developmental stage - all players are guaranteed a minimum of 50% playing time provided they attend practices and work hard. We feel players at this age need real game time to develop, and we are committed to the "50%" rule at the U9 and U10 ages.


STAGE 2: PROGRESSIVE

U11/U12 Ages

The primary focus for the Progressive stage is to continue to develop a strong technical foundation whilst also building tactical awareness, positional understanding, as well as develop an understating of the principles of attack and defense.

Additionally, each player will continue to be taught key attributes such as hard work, dedication, and commitment.

The key elements developed during this stage using the CFC Curriculum will be:

  • Strong Technical Foundation: striking the ball, short and long range passing, creativity and ball mastery.
  • Ball Possession: Small group to large group
  • Receiving under pressure
  • Switching the point of attack
  • Group defending
  • Group attacking / Combining in attack
  • Attacking with width
  • Finishing


STAGE 3: COMPETITION

U13/U14 Ages

The primary focus for the Competition stage is to continue to develop a sound tactical understanding of the game. Players will also begin to specialize within positions and fine tune positional understanding through functional training within a more competitive playing environment.

The principles of attack and defense will also become key in regards to a player decision making and how they apply their decision to the key moments of the game: When in Possession, When not in Possession and during Transition.

The key elements developed during this stage using the CFC Curriculum will be:

  • Strong technical foundation
  • Group and team possession
  • Transition
  • Playing out of the back
  • Build up play / Linking units
  • Switching the point of attack
  • Attacking with width
  • Combination play
  • Defending as a unit
  • Finishing


STAGE 4: PLACEMENT / SHOWCASE

U15/U18 Ages

The primary focus and aim for the Placement / Showcase stage is to develop players for high school and college placement.

The development of decision making in regards to the principles of play and tactics will be key during this stage. Additionally, players will be exposed to functional training for position specific training.

Players will participate in higher level tournaments and showcase tournaments to help prepare for high school soccer and to help players be selected for college soccer.

  • Function and tactical training
  • Transition
  • Build up play / playing out of the back
  • Switching the point of attack
  • Attacking with width
  • Possession vs. Penetration
  • Combination play
  • Defending as a unit
  • Linking units
